The people of Jorvik have a complicated relationship with the plastics industry. Plastic is made by processing crude oil extracted from the Earth, draining non-renewable resources and putting Jorvik’s wildlife at risk. At the same time, Dark Core’s offshore oil rig provides jobs to many of the island’s residents.
